Under 15’s
The u15 year group is a transition group for a number of reasons. The older girl’s transition from Junior hockey to Senior hockey when they reach their 15th birthday and start their GCSE’s; the younger girls will be involved in School cup competitions; a few of the group will be involved with Ulster Hockey and all will be playing 11 aside both at school and club. This coupled with the natural growth cycle of girls at this age means that the we endeavour to strike the right balance for the girls.
With all the above in mind we provide the following training schedule this year for the u15 squad:
- Training will start on Monday 2nd of September between 20:00 and 21:00 at the Aurora during School term time (i.e. not during Half Terms and Xmas hols) till the end of the Spring Term.
- We also provide the Y11 girls with the the opportunity to train with the senior squad on Wednesdays between 19:30 and 21:00. We have done this for the last three years and feedback has been that the girls have really enjoyed being involved with the older side of the club both with regard to developing there hockey skills and socially. Whilst there are larger clubs with teams higher in the leagues currently, we do feel that at this stage of the girls development Bangor provides a more balanced transition into senior hockey.
Attendance at either session is not compulsory and should fit with the girls life outside Hockey and their individual aspirations within Hockey.
Ulster Hockey organise an U15 league and Cup/plate competitions at two levels, Performance and Development. BLHC Juniors enter a team in both levels (may add another development team for 2019-2020 season). These competitions constitute between 6 and 10 matches depending on how successful the girls are.
